Dear Internet,
The past day was exhausting. I invited as many friends of mine from TTU to come visit Knoxville and see the Boomsday fireworks this weekend. I had Josh, Nathan, David, and William staying at my house after the show. Sam is hosting Tori and Genesis at her house and Jonathan is providing for Katie and her brother, Daniel.
We made quite a crowd, staking out a spot to sit at Volunteer Landing. As we arrived, Penny and Steven recognized Sam and I. Penny is the general manager at the Chic-fil-A I worked at and her brother Steven was one of my co-workers. We spread out next to them and prepared to bear the hot sun for the next five hours. Luckily Penny had brought Carcassonne (a unique German table-top game). A single game of that lasted us an hour. Penny and Steven graciously looked over our vacant chairs as we wandered around Market Square for a short while, hoping to be seated at The Tomato Head. The wait was going to be unreasonably long, considering we had two people trying to save roughly ten seats in the most popular area on the waterfront.
Sam and I waited on a take-out order and smuggled it past the watchful policemen to our waiting friends. Tomato Head has always been delicious, and didn't disappoint this time either. As the sun gradually left us in the dark, the crowd continued to grow around us. Andy and the other William arrived and managed to seat themselves among us. Barely fifteen minutes before the show started, Sam's parents arrived as well. Naturally, Sam and I vacated our folding chairs for them, since they had come out of her garage. A few minutes later the fireworks proved they were up to par this year. The only down sides were that we didn't get to hear the soundtrack along with it and I had let Evan borrow my camera for his weekend, so no pictures.
We fought the crowds and traffic to get the whole group (sans Mr. & Mrs. Leaver) to the Turkey Creek Steak & Shake where we cooled off, reflected on the day, and enjoyed milkshakes. We then parted ways: some to Sam's, some to my house, and a few to their own personal destinations. All in all, I'm counting this year's Boomsday a success. After being on such a good note, I'm even considering skipping out next year's show. That's all for tonight folks.
With Love, Noah
